Découvrir le donjon

Construit à la fin du XIème siècle par Roger III de Tosny, seigneur de Conches.

L'épaisseur des murs est de 2.60m. Les murs et les embrasures des fenêtres étaient enduits d'une couche de mortier mélangé de chaux et de sable fin afin de donner une apparence plus noble à cette construction en silex.

Au rez de chaussée : c'était la réserve des vivres, il n'y avait pas de fenêtres.

1er étage : Un puits central servait à alimenter le Château en eau potable. Il fût vidé en 1849. Une cheminée se trouvait dans chaque salle.

C'est vers 1417, alors que Conches est aux mains des Anglais que la puissance défensive du donjon est accrue sous les ordres du Captal de Buch. Il fît construire une tour supplémentaire ayant pour particularité de démarrer sur une base carrée.

Church Ste Foy Print

A 16th century church in flamboyant gothic style, which is remarkable with a finely sculptured bell -tower decorated with pinnacles, finials and chimera.

The church houses twenty two glass windows dating from the 16th century of high artistic value. Those around the choir, more than 30 feet high, are one of the finest creations from the Renaissance period.
